Hello,
My name is
Amber Steeves and I am writing you this letter as your child’s English teacher.
Every day I will be spending an hour with each of my ETFI classes this year: M.
Lachapelle, Mme. Herz-Ficshler and Mme
Forster’s grade 2 classes, and Mme Belanger’s grade 3 class!
This is my
fourth year teaching at Broadview. Before that, I worked at Castor Valley E.S. and then Farley Mowat Public School with Mme
Belanger! Having taught JK , SK and grade 2 ETFI previously at Broadview, I have
likely taught a number of my students this year in previous years, and I can’t
wait to work with them again. If this will be my first year with your child, I
am looking forward to getting to know them and their family!
I really
value parental involvement and support from home, and I will do my best to keep
you informed about what is happening in the classroom. To that end, I have
created grade specific English class blogs that I will be using to post weekly
classroom updates, reminders, and activities.Typically, once signed up, it involves you receiving one
email a week of my posting, but also allows you access to other information for
your reference.
I will be
taking the first few weeks of school to get to know my students, teaching
routines and expectations, and doing some diagnostic assessments. I plan to
determine each child’s reading level and spelling abilities so that I can begin
Literacy Stations and reading groups as soon as possible! I will pass along
more information about Literacy Stations and reading groups, as well as what
you can expect in all other areas of the English program shortly.
If you wish
to contact me about anything else, or just want to introduce yourselves, you
are welcome to call me at the school. It may also be most convenient for you to
email me directly. My school address is amber.steeves@ocdsb.ca. I check my email daily and it would be a rare occurrence
for me not to respond the same day.
I look
forward to working with you and your grade two child as the year progresses! ,
Sincerely,
Amber
Steeves
